Every year thousands of Canadian writers receive writing grants: you might as well be one of them.

Criteria for grants vary, but you need to have had work published in a recognized journal, or had a book published. Yet another reason to keep submitting your work to literary and trade magazines.

Travel grants are also available. If your book is soon to be published and your publisher cannot afford to send you on a book tour, you can apply for a travel grant to help you hop across the country.

You may be eligible for a writing grant at a local, provincial or federal level, or all three. Read the criteria carefully and follow the application instructions.

Hint: you may be awarded less than what you apply for, but you will not be awarded more, so always apply for the maximum allowable in your category.
